Create a new Source calling it computer audio. Then select the iShowU Audio Capture as the audio device for this Source and click OK. Use a ¼ inch jack to jack cable to connect a line output on your audio interface directly to a line input on the interface.
- The key is to add an 'Audio Input Capture' into your scenes sources. Once you choose the Audio Input Capture as a source, you can then drop down the list of inputs, and choose 'SWB Audio Capture'.
- Open 'Audio MIDI Setup' Click icon on lower left hand side; Check the Use boxes for both your desired output device (whether it's built-in, headphones, etc) and the iShowU Audio Capture; Make sure the box under Drift Correction is.only. checked for your desired hardware output and not the iShowU Audio Capture.
How to record and make your videos LOOK and SOUND AMAZING without dubbing.
Lights
Nothing makes a video look bad more than improper lighting, especially when recording in HD off your phone or webcam. For the best setup ensure you have lights facing you and no backlighting which will distort your videos by making them look grainy and give you a halo effect.
Sound
In order for you to provide mp3 quality audio in your video, you need to record in mp3. For this you need to use one of my 3 Methods.
You can do this via any of these methods.
- Direct 'Line In' Method, Mic & Mixer Method, or Mic & Event Speaker Method
- Using Computer Sound (from iTunes, Spotify, etc.)
macOS / OSX Setup
You will need to install an internal sound capture application in order for OBS to 'hear' your computer. For this I have chosen iShowU Audio Capture by shinywhitebox.
iShowU Audio Capture (Free) Download and follow the installation instructions exactly as outlined. Integration instructions will be provided in the setup instructions.
Camera
If you want high quality video you must record in HD. For this task I suggest using a webcam (or even a phone) with at least 1080p or 4K capability. Please note that most laptop webcams only support 720p which is why videos always look better on your phone.
Action
In order for you to properly capture and save the video (and even add in a few extras) you need high-quality (and FREE) software that will allow you to record in full HD. For this task I have chosen OBS which coincidentally is the same software I use for all my actual live streams.
I like this program because its FREE, you can use your webcam (and even phone) as the camera, and it also allows us to add layers such as graphics with our names, logos, and such as an overlay to the video. Also note that while it will look and seem a bit complicated, I will walk you through the setup.
Set up your Sources
First thing we need to do is tell OBS what to capture our video and audio with. To do this we need to add 'sources'.
Add Video Source
- Click icon in Sources pane
- Choose 'Video Capture Device', then click 'Add Source'
- Rename the source or leave as is, then click 'Add Source'
- Select your camera and the highest resolution available, click 'Done'.
- If needed, resize your camera box to fill in the entire space.
Note: If you do not see video, or chose the wrong camera, double click the video source to change cameras.
Add Audio Source
- Click icon in Sources pane
- Choose 'Audio Input Capture', then click 'Add Source'
- Rename the source or leave as is, then click 'Add Source'
- Select your USB Audio Device, click 'Done'.
- Play the music off your device and ensure the 'bars' are moving in the 'Mixer Pane'. Adjust your volume so the bars move and only clip into the red a little.
Line-in, Mixer, or Event Speaker...
- Open 'Audio MIDI Setup'
- Click icon on lower left hand side
- Check the Use boxes for both your desired output device (whether it's built-in, headphones, etc) and the iShowU Audio Capture
- Make sure the box under Drift Correction is *only* checked for your desired hardware output and not the iShowU Audio Capture. Drift Correction will make sure that there's no lag / desync between these outputs / audio signals.
- Now, go to Apple > System Preferences > Sound and choose this new Multi-Output Device as your default device for sound output. Then 'Close'.
- Click icon on lower left hand menu ('Settings' button in OBS Studio on Right Panel)
- Click ' Audio' in left menu
- Under 'Mic / Auxiliary Device 1' select 'iShowU Audio Capture', if your microphone is listed here choose the next device.
- Click 'Done'.

I cannot figure out for the live of me how to sync up the audio. The audio from the person I'm interviewing is out of sync. The audio comes in real time, but the video is delayed. For clarity I hear the audio first before the person's mouth moves in the Zoom video in OBS.
Also sometimes I get the audio from zoom and it sounds like the person is in a coliseum. There is this crazy echo. I have youtube muted when I'm doing the live stream so it's not that.
PLEASE! Someone show me some love right now. I cannot fix this these 2 problems!
